Rough Concept Sketches

Now that I had a few ideas on how I possibly wanted my game to go in- in terms of aesthetic and direction, so I went out a took a few more photos of the outside world at night as I thought it might be a good idea to gather real-life pictures and then draw in some creatures I create (taking some inspiration from artists like Trevor Henderson), to give off/ imply that scary vibe of anticipation.

These are the photos I got that night that aren't on the mood board (on the 24th October 2020):

After I got these I started to think about how I could incorporate the into my overall idea of the unsettling and of creatures that you (might?) see.

Taking inspiration from artists like Trevor Henderson, I started to sketch out the creatures that could possibly appear in the shadows. They're only in parts, because I wanted them to be obscured by the darkness.

I tried to go for strange and unsettling, so I drew out what came to my brain, playing with shapes and just put down whatever popped into my head. I then labelled them with the location I thought would best suit them.

In the end, I only got through 3 drawings. I will put then down below and then continue to talk about them:

Run... Get to the house, quick

I'm not the best at blending in the creatures with the rest of the drawing (as my style is very cartoony), but I am happy with what I have created. My personal favourite was the last one I made. I was sitting in my room when the idea of this creature rushing towards me popped into my head. The location of this picture is between our house and my neighbours ( it leads to our gardens). As I sketched it out, I imagined it having multiple mouths to take apart it's enemies, blindy stumbling around. I tried to blur the background to imply a sense of panic too.

Each picture took around 2+ hours to draw out then colour over the space of a few days. I really tried to put an emphasis on the dark and shadow (especially in the first two) and I now I hope to get feedback from my peers on what they like/ don't like.

Overall, I am proud of what I have created so far and I can't wait to continue to explore this and take it further.
