Part 2: Donut!

Now it was time to work on the next stage of the Donut! Now, I did skip one video on sculpting that I will revisit in another tutorial because I wanted to get right into trying to texture my donut! Following the Blender Guru I opened up Blender and got to work!

I started by adding a texture and messing with the  roughness and later the light source to really make the icing come alive. It took me a while to get used to, epically as I was on the wrong mode (I didn't have it on the preview of the render), but once I got some help from Marvin, I was able to continue to work on texturing my donut. I also messed with the subsurface radius and tint to give the donut a little more of a reddish glow to compliment the pink (as Guru said it makes it better).

I then textured the bottom half and even decided to add the base. I then had to work on the camera and lighting more. In the end I liked the idea of having it be low-poly (especially as I'm still a little new to this). I did change the background/plane because I realised a pink donut on a pink plane wasn't the best choice visually, thus I thought a deep purple might be best. I did mess around with the lighting a bit more and it took a while to get the camera in the right angle before I decided to finally render the image of the donut!

Now, for my review on how I did. I personally liked the picture before the final render as I think the donut looks a little more realistic while the final rendered version looks a bit oversaturated and  more like a painted donut on a canvas than a 3D model. I think I messed with the light source a little too much and was so focused on trying to create a shadow, that I lost the nice look of the screenshot I got earlier. Despite the fact that I personally don't fully like it, I'm still proud of this donut and for the fact that it's a textured model.

The next step for me will be to try something a little harder. I may try to sculpt something or maybe even try making one of my beasts. I will look through them and try and sculpt the easiest one. I will continue to update my progress and development on here. I will continue to use Blender as I am really enjoying the program. Everything is easy to use and once you understand the shortcuts, it becomes even easier to try and get the program to do what you want. I would say Blender is way easier to use than Maya and doesn't constantly freeze like Maya did for me in the past. I am happy with the program and how I am learning to use it.

Now it's time to move away from the donut and if I do get stuck, I will search for the answer via YouTube or Google, they will be my biggest asset.
