Group Forming

As I mentioned at the end of Phase 3, I felt like I couldn't continue with my own ideas, that it was going to be too much to do solo, thus I decided to join Marvin to make his Metroidvania game where you explore an isolated world.

While We currently live in the same house, we knew it would be best to have a way to communicate when we are doing work and thus, we decided to make a Discord where we could compile work, feedback, and any forms of inspiration!

We have many channels to be able to help us with keeping things organized and relevant to what we could be working on at the time.

The example you see to the left is where we sent stuff to ourselves to be able to put it on our websites or for the other to have.

This one is one of out most useful channels. While we do have our ones for idea-generation (which is helping us with figuring out the finer details of the game), this 'link-spam' is helping us to find/ use software for pixel-art (as this will be the main visual style) as well as inspiration and any form of media we find online that we think can help us.

Now, with having the Discord, we really feel like we can work well as a group. We talk more about this in our 'Competitive Analysis' in 'Practice-Based Research' which you can find on my Notion, but essentially we have worked together on previous projects as well as being able to excel at skills that the other may struggle with. For example, I am bad at coding and environments and Marvin is brilliant at them. He struggles with narrative and character design and those are the areas I am most passionate about. We complement each other in a way that means we can solidly work to create our game to the best of our abilities.

The only cautions we need to have is to make sure to separate our friendship from the working environment. We do have very good communication with each other regardless, but we both understand that to pass, we need to do this together- and so we have both said we need to make sure that if one of us is lacking or needs to get something done, we just tell them and not hold any malice against the other.

Regardless, I am very excited to be in this Duo and cannot wait to see what we are able to do.

I just wanted to quickly talk about what Marvin's game idea was. I am using the Practice-Based Research that we did in Notion as an example to fully show what the game is about so the things within my Phase 4 will make sense.
